5PM - THE MERCENARY (18)
We are proud to present a special screening of 'The Mercenary', starring former Legionnaire turned action actor Dominiquie Vandenberg, and directed by Jesse V. Johnson. A passion project for Vandenberg, the film follows the path of a mercenary who is left for dead by his team after a mission goes wrong in South America, only to be rescued by people from nearby village. The peaceful life he establishes with them is thrown into turmoil when the mercenaries he used to work with cross his path again, and he is forced to revisit his past.

7.45PM - DRAGONS FOREVER (18) PRESENTED IN ASSOCIATION WITH 88 FILMS & SUPPORTED BY THE HONG KONG ECONOMIC AND TRADE OFFICE - CHARITY SCREENING
Our first classic film this year is ‘Dragons Forever’, presented in association with 88 Films, and the Hong Kong Trade and Economic Office. The final film that the three Lucky Stars of Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and Yuen Biao starred together in, the film also stars martial arts legend Benny ‘The Jet’ Urquidez, Pauline Yeung, and Yuen Wah. Filled with the trademark hard hitting fight scenes of that era, the film tells the story of three Hong Kong lawyers are are hired by a chemical company of questionable ethics. The lawyers eventually have to make a difficult decision one the company's motives become clear.
All proceeds from this screening will be donated to Medicinema, a charity that brings the magic of cinema to hospitals across the UK.
SUNDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER
11.30AM - FREE SEMINAR - FIGHTING FOR FILM: SUSPENDING DISBELIEF with MIKE FURY
"Life Of Action' author Mike Fury presents a special seminar and speaks to some of the UK's rising stars and filmmakers on how to design high-calibre action and fight scenes for film. The panel includes Jean-Paul Ly (Nightshooters, Hobbes and Shaw), Matt Routledge (Tribal-Get Out Alive, Accident Man), Zara Pythian (Tribal - Get Out alive, Doctor Strange), and Dan Styles (Avengement, Accident Man). Together, they will guide you through their process, share and demonstrate practical examples, and offer advice based on their own experience.

4.40PM - HERO (12) SUPPORTED BY THE HONG KONG ECONOMIC AND TRADE OFFICE
Our second classic film is 'Hero', directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Jet Li, Tony Leung, Donnie Yen, Maggie Cheung, and Zhang Ziyi. One of the most critically acclaimed martial films of all time, 'Hero' tells the story of a man called Nameless, who is summoned to face the Emperor of Qin to recount how he managed to defeats 3 famous warriors. Renowned for its stirring cinematography and elegant action scenes, 'Hero' remains one of the greatest martial arts movies ever made, and arguably the most beautiful. This screening is supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office.

7.30PM - LOI BAO (15) + Q&A with action PRODUCER JASON NINH CAO and action choreographer VIncent WANG
Vietnamese action sci-fi thriller Loi Bao will be the closing film of Fighting Spirit 2019. A hit in its native country, the film starts with the protagonist Tam, a struggling comic book artist who is searching for his next hit. Stricken with a terminal disease, he agrees to have his head transplanted onto another body in a cutting edge illegal operation. As he recovers from the operation, he realises the body he has inherited also comes with superhuman martial arts skills, and also the memories of it's past life. Following the film, there will be a Q&A with producer Jason Ninh Cao, and action choreographer Vincent Wang, who has also worked on Spider-Man:Far From Home, Batman Begins, and The Bourne Ultimatum.
